This site was dreamed up and created by me, Leonard Barrett. I’m a permaculture enthusiast, designer (website), parent, business owner, and yes, a renter. Over the years, I’ve heard many aspiring permaculturists (including myself) exclaim “I would love to do this stuff, but I don’t have any land.” This blog is for all the people who’ve ever said or felt something similar.
For the better part of the last decade I’ve been bouncing around community houses, some intentional, some less so; some where I had full license to dig up the whole yard; some where my only hope was to garden in 5-gallon buckets on a little part of the roof that I could crawl onto through a window. The whole gamut! (With the exception, perhaps, of living way up in a high-rise….maybe that’ll be next….)
Armed with my own experience as a life-long renter, landscape designer, and teacher, I thought it was time to share a few tips and tricks I’ve picked up along the way, and provide a medium through which lots of other renters could share their techniques as well. Look forward to almost-daily updates of techniques and strategies that I’m engaging in, or that I’m seeing others utilize here in Portland, Oregon and beyond.
Follow what I’m doing here.
